SIGDALSLAG SURVEY

Between 1839 and 1920 there were nearly 5000 people who emigrated from SIGDAL, EGGEDAL and KRØDSHERAD to America. The Sigdalslag wants to gather as much information as possible to learn what has happened to the descendants of these immigrants. The Lag constantly receives letters from Norway, the U. S. and Canada, asking for our help in locating people. This survey and the resulting file forms the database that enables us to answer the requests.

This will be a reference tool for people on both sides of the Atlantic. You should be aware that copies are given to the Sigdal og Eggedal Museum in Prestfoss, Norway, to the Norwegian-American Historical Association in Northfield, Minnesota, and to the Vesterheim Genealogical Center in Madison Wisconsin.

Please complete the form to tell us about your family. The first part is for information about the original immigrant only. The second part is for the descendants, each generation in order. We are not collecting ancestors, just descendants of the immigrants.

Leave blank what you cannot, or prefer not to answer, but the more detailed the answers, the more valuable the record. Please be especially careful about the names. Use full names if possible: First, Patronymic and Farm, or First Middle & Last. If the children used different last names than the parents, please indicate that. Include dates where possible. If you need more space, please send a separate email to Lee Rokke.

If you have old letters, diaries, family histories, pictures or property that would be of interest to genealogists, please tell us about it so that the information can be kept on file. Perhaps 50 years from now your grandchildren will need to know where they can find more information about you.

Thank you for your interest and your cooperation.
